Why does the app ask for the location setting “Always allow”?

Many users are confused by the wording of location permissions on smartphones. Terms like “Always allow” and “Allow only while using the app” are not very intuitive, but they have an important impact on how the app works.

If you select “While using the app”, the app can only access GPS data when it is actively open and visible on your screen. As soon as you switch to another app—such as your browser, messages, or email—the GPS access is paused. This means your route is no longer recorded in the background.

The option “Always allow” ensures that the app can continue to access your location even when it is running in the background. This is essential for seamless tracking of your journeys without requiring you to keep the app open at all times.

Of course, you remain in control at all times. As soon as you stop the tracking, the app immediately stops accessing your location and no further data is recorded.

In short: “Always allow” does not mean constant tracking without control—it simply enables the app to function properly in the background while you are on the move.
